Belvue Fire Station
KAN STEP funding goes to Belvue for new
fire station
The Kansas Department of Commerce (Commerce) has awarded the City of Belvue a
$229,961 grant to help construct a new fire station. Belvue is located in
Pottawatomie County in northeast Kansas.
The grant is awarded through Commerce's KAN STEP program, a self-help program
that enables small communities to make major infrastructure improvements. Local
people volunteer labor and services, while Commerce provides funding for
materials and technical services. An acronym for Kansas Small Towns Environment
Program, KAN STEP gives small Kansas communities an opportunity to do projects
they couldn't otherwise afford. The funding is provided through the federal
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
The new fire station will include four bays and a training facility. The station
will serve and protect 86 households in the community. The total cost of the
7,066-square-foot building will be $398,531, which includes $168,570 in
volunteer labor and a KAN STEP grant of $229,961.
Architect for the project is Rosemann & Associates, Overland Park, KS. Grant
administration will be provided by Governmental Assistance Services, Lawrence.
The Kansas Rural Water Association provides on-site assistance and inspection
services to the KAN STEP program.
