Jamestown, KS To Make Water System Improvements With KAN STEP Grant

The City of Jamestown, KS will make water system improvements thank to the award of $185,724 through the KAN STEP Program. KAN STEP is an acronym for Kansas Small Town Environment Program that is funded through the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing. KAN STEP has successfully used "sweat equity" to help communities reduce costs of water system improvements, fire stations and other community facilities. Volunteers will provide $80,520 in donated labor and/or services.

Jamestown is located in north-central Cloud County in north-central Kansas.

The project will involve installation of 5,988 linear feet (LF) of 4-inch C900 PVC waterline; 960 LF of 2-inch CL 200 PVC; 2,450 LF of 3/4-inch polyethylene service line; tracer wire; 14 gate valves; 6 two-way fire hydrant assemblies; 52 new meter pits and service settings, along with numerous other appurtenances.

The project design is by Schwab - Eaton, PA., Beloit, KS. Grant administration will be provided by North Central Kansas Planning Commission, Beloit. The Kansas Rural Water Association will provide inspection services and technical assistance.
