KAN STEP grant to help City of Mankato construct new fire station

A $300,000 KAN STEP grant will help the city of Mankato construct an addition to an existing fire station. Local volunteers will contribute $217,186 in labor, materials and other services. Mankato is located in Jewell County in north-central Kansas. It has a population of 950 people. The KAN STEP addition will measure 44 feet wide and 96 feet long. The facility is all open space; it will include three truck bays, a training area with a hospitality area and a maintenance bay with some equipment storage. The project includes five overhead doors.

The project architect is Dan Hall, BG Consultants, Manhattan. Kansas Deb Ohlde, North Central Kansas Planning, Beloit, will provide grant administration. Kansas Rural Water Association will provide inspection services and technical assistance.
