Reno County Fire Station
Reno County Fire District No. 9
A new fire station will be constructed in Saint Joe, located in southeastern Reno County in central Kansas, thanks to a $284,971 KAN STEP grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
The KAN STEP grant will pay for a new 3,000 square foot facility; it has an estimated retail cost of $475,032. This includes volunteer labor valued at $190,061 and the KAN STEP grant of $284,071.
The overall dimensions of the Fire District 1 Station are 50 feet x 60 feet. The Reno County Fire Station includes three bays, ADA accessible bathrooms, and office. Local contribution will come in the form of a donated labor, land, and equipment.
The project architect is Dan Hall with BG Consultants, Manhattan. Grant administration will be provided by Rose Mary Saunders of Ranson Financial Consultants LLC, Wichita. The volunteer “sparkplug” for the project is Keith Schmidt. The Kansas Rural Water Association will provide inspection services and technical assistance to the volunteers.
