Washington Fire Station

The City of Washington has been awarded a $347,614 KAN STEP grant to construct a new fire station. Washington is located in Washington County in north-central Kansas. The fire station has an estimated market value of $580,745. KAN STEP is an acronym for Kansas Small Town Environment Program that is funded through the Kansas Department of Commerce (Commerce). KAN STEP has successfully used "sweat equity" to help communities to reduce costs of water system improvements and now, fire stations and community centers.

Washington City Manager Tim Schook is also serving as Project Representative. Grant Administrator is John Cyr of North Central Kansas Planning Commission, Beloit. Donnie Marrs of DMA Architects, Salina, is project architect. Kansas Rural Water Association provides Inspection Services and Assistance; Shane Holthaus and Pete Koenig are KRWA staff who will assist on this project.

As of April 24, 2003, the city is preparing to bid the materials for the project.
